Pulling Out

I'm sure we've all heard the news that we've hit 4,000 American deaths in Iraq. 4,000 young men and women have died, and enough is enough.

Personally, I have a number of friends in the armed forces, and every time I hear that more have died, I fear that it's one of them. Every time someone from my town dies, the morale drops more. I walk around my neighborhood and see car stickers in remembrance of someone or other and I hope to God that I don't ever get one.

It's time to pull out. We've done all we can, and the ball is in their court. If we stay, more will die, more civilians will suffer, more insurgents will be recruited to get rid of us. If we stay, our ridiculous government will screw up more. If we stay, Afghanistan, where the real fight should be, will be further neglected. More Americans, both here and abroad will suffer, either because they have to fight or because their state's equipment is being taken and not replaced or returned.

Pulling-out

That's 4,000, right? I always thought the rhythm method was best to avoid impregnation. :0)

Crud. Thanks for the

Crud. Thanks for the correction. I'm worse with numbers then I thought.

So I hear.

How many others?

According to this study claims...

The total of Iraqis is 2/3 of a million dead, who would likely be alive had we not invaded.

How many more human lives must be paid before we wake up and smell the corpses stinking in the fields?

Why do we only count the...

...US dead when there are 666,000 Iraqi's who have died senselessly? 4000 is sad ... but... 666,000 that's a lot of people - just because they are not American does not make it insignificant.

That, my dear, deserves it's

That, my dear, deserves it's own essay. I may well write one someday.

Iraqi life=American life

Yet nobody really believes that American and Iraqi lives are equal. Just note the reaction one gets surrounding the deaths in 9/11--it's in stark-contrast to the reaction of all of the Iraqi dead who would still be alive today--presumably--had we not invaded. And does anyone remember the 500,000 Iraqi children who died as a result of the Clinton administration's bombings of the nation, hitting vital infrastructure. No. The vast majority of Americans do not feel an Iraqi life is equal to that of a white American, even among the 2/3d's that are against the war itself. We're a barbaric culture, what can you say? We're learning, but the pace is too slow.

Indeed. I hadn't heard those

Indeed. I hadn't heard those figures before. Thank you. I'm perpetually amazed at the government and media's indifference to life, except when it's convenient.

None-American lives are considered worthless

It's just a fact, and a sad one. We're hearing about how many of our troops are dying, but the figures on actual Iraqi deaths are constantly being played with. That should tell anyone with a sense of intellectual curiosity and humanity that something's very-very wrong.

Prediction: Baghdad is going to fall, possibly before the elections here. 2009 at-the-latest. Welcome to the American Stalingrad, it's ending, and our troops are in serious danger. We all are while this administration is given their free-pass from Congress and the Supreme Court.
